How to Make a Perfect Smoothie Bowl
If you're already adept at making a smoothie, you've mastered the foundation for a smoothie bowl. Essentially, a smoothie bowl is a thick, spoonable smoothie, artfully presented in a bowl. The process is straightforward, and we're here to guide you in creating the ultimate, most satisfying smoothie bowl.

Essential Equipment
a high speed blender
Ingredients

For the Base:
- 1 cup frozen strawberries or mixed berries
- 1 cup frozen banana slices, from very ripe bananas (see Note)
- 3 tablespoons milk or non-dairy milk (e.g., almond milk)
- 2 tablespoons almond butter, sunflower seed butter, or peanut butter (optional)
- 2 tablespoons vanilla or unflavored protein powder (optional)
For Topping & Garnish:
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted
- ¼ cup granola
- 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
- Fresh strawberries, sliced
- Fresh bananas, sliced
Method

1.Create the Base: In a blender, combine the frozen berries and frozen banana slices. Blend on a low setting until the mixture reaches a coarse, sandy texture.
2.Achieve the Consistency: Add the milk, nut butter, and protein powder (if using) to the blender. Continue to blend on low, pausing to scrape down the sides as necessary, until the mixture is thoroughly combined and has a thick, "soft-serve" consistency.
3.Assemble and Serve: Transfer the smoothie base to a bowl. Immediately drizzle with the melted coconut oil and allow it to harden for approximately one minute (placing the bowl in the freezer can accelerate this process). Finish by sprinkling with granola and hemp seeds, and garnish with the fresh strawberry and banana slices.

Chef's Note
For optimal sweetness and texture, use very ripe bananas. Slice them into 1-inch pieces before freezing. The drizzle of melted coconut oil onto the cold smoothie base creates a magic shell effect, introducing a wonderful textural contrast and a satisfying crunch.
